Welcome!
Megumi (Grace) Aviary is a rare poultry preservation and improvement project that's a hobby of the Rogers family in rural Indiana. It's dedicated to the preservation, improvement, and reconstruction of poultry antiquities and rarities. Click "About our name" to see how, through our friends Dan and Karen Ellrick, we chose the name Megumi (Grace) Aviary.
Matsu, a bbred bantam Long Tail
From Toni-Marie Astin
We're currently working on building flocks of various rare breeds. Including various long tail fowl. As well as other Asian breeds and Asian blood line derived breeds. We thank God for sending these birds our way. Also, many thanks to a very good friend Toni-Marie Astin for so much!
To help offset the cost of feed, we will at times sell a few birds that don't make our final cut of selection. Usually due to space restrictions. Extra birds are usually available for sale in the spring and summer, but a few may occasionally be available at other times as well. We occassionally ship livestock via overnight USPS service. We are typically not open to visitors due to bio-security practices we have implemented.
Our main breeding program now is Project Onagadori; a breeding program to regroup the various long-tail traits found in flocks here in the US and remake true Onagadori in the US. We are using traditional Japanese rearing methods. One can not call their birds Onagadori unless they have been tested specifically for the non-molting trait. That's what an Onagadori is, a non-molter. Having long feathers does not qualify a long-tail bird as an Onagadori. It must be non-molting. Just as other breeds have traits that make them what they are, the non-molting is what makes an Onagadori what it is.
We do not claim to have pure Onagadori, only birds in progress. You can go to our photos page to see our most recent developments in this breeding program.
A pure breed bird's identity will always be clearly stated. On occasion we may choose not to disclose the exact make-up of crosses for any reason at our discretion.
Prices range from $5.00 and up according to age, quality, and breed.

As God blesses us and we build our flocks, we look forward to helping others build theirs as well to help preserve some very rare breeds.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield, the Lord will give grace and glory, no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!
